ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Position Responsibilities: 

Duties will include--but are not limited to--editing and writing short research pieces on AI site, managing social media presence, strategically positioning AI research online, and developing internship program in media and research. Toward the end of diversifying research and cultural initiatives, the Assistant Director will also be responsible for envisioning new projects and authoring foundation grants in their support.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience and interest in research related to family, sexuality, and social behavior
  • BA in a social science, economics, statistics or related field in Humanities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm to assist Senior Fellows and Director with publications and day-to-day

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • MA/MS or equivalent experience in research/journalism
  • Social Media expertise in FB, Tw, and G+, google analytics & Wordpress
  • Coursework in sociology, economics, or related field in Humanities

RESEARCH INTERN

Position Responsibilities:

  • Minimum of Bachelors in a social science, economics or statistics with research methods
  • Experience and interest in the study of topics related to family, sexuality, and social behavior
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Web management skills also useful, including facility with various social media applications

MEDIA INTERN

Position Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Social Media expertise in FB, Tw, and G+, knowledge of google analytics and wordpress preferred
  • Coursework in Sociology, Economics, or Marketing a plus
  • Facility with InfoGraphics
  • Experience and interest in the study of topics related to family, sexuality, and social behavior
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

About the Austin Institute:

 The AI is an emerging academic social scientific research institute located near the University of Texas at Austin campus. Its team of scholars and researchers will:

  1. Conduct its own large, nationally-representative research projects tackling understudied and sensitive research questions on family, sexuality, and culture.
  2. Interpret, assess, and distill published results of research projects and studies on sex, marriage, and the family via a readable monthly digest of social science findings.
  3. Respond with expedience and tact to data-based inquiries from the media, tackle current issues and events in the family sciences, and disseminate in-house survey results via a twice-weekly blog, podcasts, hosted events, and other coordinated social media efforts.
