About The Event

The British theologian C.S. Lewis wrote that “Friendship…is born at the moment when one man says to another ‘What! You too? I thought that no one but myself...” The Classical and Christian traditions hold friendship as a measure of both happiness and virtue, but what makes a friendship? Are there different kinds of friendship? Furthermore, what does it mean to be a friend? Come join us for this four-part series with Dr. Erik Dempsey in searching out the long and lasting art of friendship. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP here so we know to expect you.

Dr. Erik Dempsey is a lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, and assistant director of UT's Thomas Jefferson Center for the Study of Core Texts and Ideas. He is also a faculty fellow of the Jack Miller Center for Teaching America's Founding Principles and History, which sponsors the Constitution Day Initiative in support of the congressional mandate.
